Bowlers And Openers Collective Efforts Guides The Super Gillies To An Easy Win

In the ninth match of the exciting Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) registered a comprehensive 54-run victory over the Karaikudi Kaalai (KK) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. The Super Gillies were very good at the start, but then suffered a batting collapse and eventually managed to reach an imposing first innings total. In the second innings, the bowlers did their job extremely well to guide their team to an emphatic win.  

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Super Gillies got off to a sensational start at the top because both their openers, Ganga Sridhar Raju and Gopinath came out with a pretty positive approach. The duo stitched an excellent partnership off 108 runs in just 11.2 overs before Raju got out after playing an impressive innings of 54 runs off 38 balls that included of six fours and two sixes. His opening partner, Gopinath, also got out pretty soon after scoring 55 runs off 40 balls that included of 4 fours and 2 sixes.

The pair of skipper Kaushik Gandhi and Harish Kumar then stitched a brief stand of 31 runs before a remarkable batting collapse happened. From a strong situation at 158 for 2, they lost six wickets for 16 runs and eventually they managed to reach 175 for 8 in 20 overs. 

For Karaikudi Kaalai, Sunil Sam, S Mohan Prasanth and R Rajkumar finished with two wickets each, while Maan Bafna took a scalp.

Bowlers combined performance restricts the Kaalais

Chasing a target of 176 runs in the second innings, Karaikudi Kaalai got off to a horrendous start losing three wickets in the form of V Aditya, Srikkanth Anirudha and R Kavin with just 26 runs on the board.  Maan Bafna also got out pretty soon leaving in the deep trouble at 29 for 4. The trio of Rajhamany Srinivasan, M Shajahan and R Rajkumar failed to contribute much with the bat.

 After the early damage, the Kaalais kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually were able to only score 121 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. For the Super Gillies, G Periyaswamy took two crucial scalps, while Rahul, Siddharth, Harish and Murugan Ashwin picked up a wicket each.
