Clinical Dindigul Dragons Rattle The Patriots In A One-Sided Battle

In the tenth match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, Dindigul Dragons (DGD) registered a convincing 40-run victory over TUTI Patriots (TP) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. The Dragons performed remarkably well throughout the whole duration of the game both with the bat and ball. With this win, they have solidified their position at the top of the points table.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Dindigul Dragons got off to a decent opening start as their openers, Hari Nishanth and N Jagadeesan followed a pretty positive approach. The duo added a stand of 41 runs before Nishanth got out in the fifth over scoring 17 runs off 14 balls. The duo of R Vivek and NS Chaturved also got dismissed pretty soon leaving the team in a spot of bother at 69 for 3 in 9 overs.

Jagadeesan kept things afloat from the other end, batting with great composure and stitched a fine stand of 47 runs along with skipper Ravichandran Ashwin. The wicket-keeper batsman got out in the 15th over after playing an excellent innings of 53 runs off 41 balls.

After his dismissal, skipper Ashwin took the onus on himself to lead his team further in the innings and played an amazing knock of 52 runs off just 28 balls that consisted of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Towards the end, Sumant Jain remained unbeaten at 26 as the Dindigul Dragons finished with 173 for 7 in 20 overs. For the Patriots, Kumaran, Moorthi and Senthilnathan picked up two wickets each.

Bowlers collective efforts restricts the Patriots

Chasing a target of 174 runs in the second innings, the Patriots got off to a horrible start as they lost wickets early on in clusters at the top. After the end of 5.2 overs, they found themselves in a deep trouble at 27 for 5 with Sivagnanan Senthilnathan, Akshay Srinivasan, Subramania Siva, Nidish Rajagopal and S Abhishiek back in the pavilion. The duo of Vasanth Saravanan and Murugesan Kamlesh also failed with the bat, leaving the team at 54 for 7.

The duo of SP Nathan and M Ganesh Moorthi then added 76 runs for the eighth wicket partnership but the match was almost over till then as the required rate had already reached the impossible barriers. Eventually, the TUTI Patriots managed to get 133 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. For the Dragons, Rohit picked up three vital wickets, while Ashwin, Kaushik and Trilok took two scalps each.
