Harish And Gopinath Combined Efforts Leads The Super Gillies To 9-Wicket Win

In the 13th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019, Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) handed a crushing 9-wicket defeat to the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. The Super Gillies played remarkably well throughout the duration of the game both with the ball and bat to eclipse the Kings. With this win, Chepauk have claimed the top position on the points table.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Kovai Kings got off to a positive start at the top as their two openers, Shahrukh Khan and skipper Abhinav Mukund batted really well. The duo stitched a fine partnership of 45 runs for the opening wicket to provide a solid foundation before Shahrukh got out in the eighth over. The duo of Malolan Rangarajan and Mukund also got dismissed pretty soon, leaving the team in a spot of bother at 50 for 3.

After these three wickets, Pradosh Ranjan Paul and Anirudh Sita Ram did stitch a small stand of 35 runs, but after their dismissals, things suddenly collapsed for the Kings. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as none of the batters tried to take the responsibility.

Eventually, the Kovai Kings managed to get just 115 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their quota of 20 overs. For the Super Gillies, Harish Kumar picked up four wickets, while Periyaswamy and Murugan Ashwin took two scalps each.

Gopinath and Raju’s century opening stand leads the Super Gillies in the chase

Chasing a nominal target of 116 runs, the Super Gillies started off things on pretty brilliant note as both their openers, Gopinath and Ganga Sridhar Raju followed a positive approach. The openers showed remarkable composure and temperament to compile a sensational stand of 106 runs for the first wicket. Gopinath played an amazing innings of 82 runs off 41 balls that included of 10 fours and 4 sixes before getting dismissed by Antony Dhas.

However, before getting out, Gopinath had already done the damage and ensured that the chase is reduced to mere formalities. The other opener, Raju, remained unbeaten at 31 off 35 balls as the Chepauk Super Gillies chased down the target in just 13.3 overs.
