Misbah-Ul-Haq Reveals About The Over-Dependence On Some Players

Pakistan’s brilliant homecoming with the excellent ODI series win was cut short as they are trailing behind 2-0 in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Pakistan suffered convincing defeats in both the T20I matches at the hands of the visiting Sri Lankan team. The hosts failed to live up to the expectations as they are currently the No.1 ranked T20I side.

We need to find six match-winner, not one

The majority of the Pakistan senior players failed to contribute much with the bat in the first two matches and that invited the defeat. Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq also talked about the team’s dependence on star batsman Babar Azam. The vice-captain scored 13 and 3 respectively in the first and second T20I match.

“We became number one in T20Is but if you dig deeper, our only strength was Babar Azam’s runs and he didn’t score in two games and we’ve been exposed. I think we need to find six match-winners, not one,” quoted Misbah-ul-Haq.

“Until you don’t have that powerhouse in the middle-order and a powerhouse at the top-order for the powerplay, you can’t do well. Similarly, in the bowling powerplay if you can’t get wickets and then in the death overs you can’t finish well, you struggle and I think we have failed in all departments,” he added.

Misbah stated that this series defeat is an eye-opener for the entire team. The head coach further mentioned that things didn’t work in the right manner for them. Misbah revealed that other players need to contribute well because it is very difficult to rely on only one or two batsmen.

“It’s an eye opener. We need to look at these things. If we were doing well, we couldn’t do that here. Our strong points didn’t deliver. We need to find other players, how long can you rely on one or two batsmen?” Misbah concluded.
