It is a fact that the crowd attendance have gone down substantially during Test cricket in India. In comparison between the time when Test cricket is played in nations like England and Australia, people come in large numbers to enjoy the action, while in India, this number goes down. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as well as Cricket Australia (CA) are picked some specific number of venues where the Test matches are held.
Looking at the crowd attendance in the three-match Test series against South Africa, Indian captain Virat Kohli has urged to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to adopt the same idea. India whitewashed South Africa 3-0 for the first time in any format, but people didn’t gather in large numbers to witness the action and Virat wants to fix this.
During the post-match press conference, Virat mentioned that the visiting teams should be aware of the Test venues, the pitches and the crowd expected. The Indian captain noted that things cannot be this much sporadic and spread over so many places.
“In my opinion, we should have 5 strong Test centres. In Test cricket, teams coming into India should know that they are going to play at these five centres, these are the pitches and crowds to expect. It can’t be sporadic and spread over so many places,” quoted Virat Kohli.
