Northern Warriors’ captain Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bowl first. Delhi Bulls got off to a horrific start losing two key wickets in the form of Kusal Perera and Sherfane Rutherford in the very first over. Warriors’ off-spinner Chris Green bowled a remarkable opening spell picking three crucial wickets and gave away just 8 runs in his two overs quota.
Delhi Bulls’ captain Eoin Morgan then led the damage with some sensational power-hitting. Morgan smashed an explosive innings of 56 runs off only 28 balls that consisted of five sixes and three fours. David Wiley and Mohammad Nabi also added some crucial runs towards the end that pushed Delhi Bulls to 110 for 6 in 10 overs. For the Northern Warriors, Green took three wickets while Andre Russell finished with two scalps.
In the second innings, the new set of two openers, Lendl Simmons and Nicholas Pooran got their team off to a great start going complete guns from the very first over. The duo comprising of Simmons and Pooran stitched a fine opening stand of 48 runs for the opening wicket in just 3.4 overs. Simmons got out after scoring 22 runs off 12 balls and that brought the dangerous Andre Russell onto the crease.
Russell smacked an entertaining cameo knock of 22 runs off just 8 balls that included two sixes and as many fours to power the Northern Warriors into a strong position in the run-chase. However, Pooran played the stand-out innings as he remained unbeaten till the end playing a match-winning knock of 56 runs off just 25 balls. Northern Warriors chased down the target with one over to spare.
