New Zealand have been marred by a whole lot of injuries that too to their frontline players. Before the start of the India tour, New Zealand’s three frontline fast bowlers, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult and Matt Henry got ruled out of the T20Is and ODIs due to their respective injuries. Amidst the series, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson also suffered a shoulder injury and subsequently missed the last two T20Is and the first two ODIs.
In the present situation, the trio of Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner and Scott Kuggeleijn are down with illness and are not available for the upcoming third and final ODI against India. Southee bowled his quota of 10 overs and picked the vital wicket of Virat Kohli in the second ODI before leaving the field due to high fever. New Zealand found themselves in a helpless situation in the second ODI when their fielding coach Luke Ronchi had to come out as a substitute fielder.
Ish Sodhi and Blair Tickner, who were both part of the New Zealand A team in the ongoing game against India A, have been included in the senior men’s squad for the third ODI. Ben Lister will be joining the New Zealand A squad as a replacement.
