According to records, England and India are two top contenders for the World Cup 2019 title owing to their respective 1st and 2nd ranks in the ICC ODI Rankings. England is going to play in their home conditions and that is something that will provide them with an added advantage, however the Indian national team has to buckle up their shoes in order to win the title. With their recent defeat against Australia in the ODI series at home, proved that India is a tough contender but not at all prepared to face the World Cup as of now. The team has the talent, confidence and caliber; however the recently concluded five-match home series proved that India needs to put in a lot of efforts in order to lift the World Cup 2019.
The same is reckoned by the former Indian captain and current India A coach, Rahul Dravid. According to him, it is good that India faced the reality check after losing the ODI series against Australia. This will help to keep the team confidence in check and also give them a chance to lift the World Cup with a bit more efforts.
I think there was a bit of notion that we are going walk there and win the World Cup easily says Dravid
Rahul Dravid holds the opinion that the ODI loss against Australia was a good eye-opener for the team as that will help me to keep their confidence at bay. The former Indian skipper, Dravid, said that “I think there was a bit of notion that we are going walk there and win the World Cup easily. So it’s a good thing that has happened. What it has (the outcome against Australia) has reminded us is that we have to play the World Cup very, very well.”
He furthered by saying that India performed impressively well in the last couple of years and hold the stance of winning the World Cup as well, however needs more of efforts to dominate the one-day cricket.
It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be competitive says Dravid
Dravid says that India is still his favorites to win the World Cup however it is going to be a tough tournament. “But I don’t find anything strange, from my perspective, watching the series. I still feel that we are going to be one of the favorites. But it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be competitive,” he added.
