Cricplex World Cup 2019

India Starts As Favorites Says Brian Lara

Even though the Indian sporting event, IPL has taken its toll on the headlines around the world, cricket fanatics around the world can’t wait for the mega event of the ICC World Cup 2019. The 50-over ICC World Cup is going to start two weeks after the IPL. Many veteran cricketers have already stated their choices as to who is going to win this ICC World Cup and another addition came in the form of the megastar of the West Indies cricket, Brian Lara.

India can win the World Cup says Lara

In a recent media event at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai, Lara said that he thinks that India holds the chances of winning the World Cup saying that the Men in Blue have all their bases covered and are a big threat to the other teams. Lara picked India and not the hosting team, England who has the benefit of playing the tournament in their home conditions, even after the team suffered a shocking defeat in home conditions against the visiting squad of Australia. He furthered by saying that he would like to see an India and Pakistan final happening in the ICC World Cup.

“They are capable of playing all around the world. India starts as favorites. The Champions Trophy final a couple of years ago, Pakistan versus India… that would be a wonderful final to see again,” said Lara.

The World Cup is going to be very dependent on weather says Lara

Lara furthered by saying that he believes this World Cup will be dependent on the weather conditions in England and Wales. “The World Cup is going to be very dependent on weather. The English weather, you never know what it is going to be like. England in England is a tough opposition but they are also a team that knows how to lose important matches,” said Brian Lara.

Lara further talked about his home team Windies who had to play the qualifying tournament in order to get into the World Cup. He said that Windies can surprise anyone and should not be considered as a weak team and be ruled out. “I was not surprised when Pakistan won the Champions Trophy. I felt that even though they are a team that are inconsistent, they do have players that can win any tournament. The West Indies are similar. Very inconsistent, but on their day they can beat any team,” said Lara.
