IPL 2019, Match 9- KXIP Vs MI, Preview: Refreshed Mumbai Aim For Consistency Against Controversy-Hit Punjab

In the ninth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be facing the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the afternoon encounter on March 30 in Mohali. The hosts are coming into this game after conceding a disappointing loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and will be desperately eyeing to keep the controversies away from their radar. On the other hand, the visitors are coming after a sensational victory and will be looking to maintain the winning momentum.

The biggest concern for the KXIP team management going into the upcoming game will be the form of opener KL Rahul. He has only managed to score five runs in two outings and moreover, his way of getting dismissed will be a point of focus. Thus, it is very important for Rahul to be back amongst the runs as he is a vital clog in that in-experienced line-up. They soughted out their middle-order woes in the previous game with both Agarwal and Miller scoring blistering fifties each.

However, the KXIP bowling came under the barrel in both the games and especially during the death overs stage against KKR. They will be eager to address the issues in order to achieve a winning consistency this season.

On the other hand, the visiting Mumbai Indians team boosts a pretty balanced and settled unit. With Rohit coming back in form in the previous match, the management would be pleased by the player's progress.  Suryakumar Yadav struggled to rotate the strike and his role in the team needs to be put under his notice. The rest of the batters have fired in either of the first two games this year.

Their bowling also looks pretty solid with the inclusion of Mayank Markande, who replaced Rasikh Salam in the previous game. Lasith Malinga had almost cost Mumbai the game against Bangalore had the umpire not committed that no-ball blunder. He will be hoping to come good this time around.

Weather Conditions

It is expected to be extremely hot in Mohali as it is an afternoon game. The temperatures are will hover around the 40-mark. No rain interruption will halt the action of the game.

Head to Head Battle

In the 22 IPL matches played between the two teams, MI have gone on to taste the flavour of victory 12 times, while KXIP have won 10 times.

Kings XI Punjab’s likely Playing XI

Chris Gayle and KL Rahul will open the batting for KXIP and they will be hoping to provide a thrilling start. The in-form pair of Miller and Mayank will bat in the middle-order along with Sarfaraz and Mandeep guarding the finishers' roles. Varun Chakravarthy had a poor outing in his debut game and he is likely to make way for one of Ankit Rajpoot or Murugan Ashwin.

Hardus Viljoen did a decent job on debut and he will probable retain his place. He will be partnering with Shami and Tye in the pace bowling department. KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin will take care of the spin bowling work along with the other Ashwin.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle, KL Rahul (wk), Mayank Agarwal, David Miller, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardus Viljoen, Andrew Tye, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin.

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

After a splendid performance in the previous match, Mumbai Indians are likely to field an unchanged team in this game. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock will be the two openers. Despite his struggles, the team is likely to show faith in Suryakumar and he will bat at the No.3 position. Yuvraj Singh will come in at four and following him would be the three finishers in Hardik, Pollard and Krunal.

Pollard's form with the bat will be a concern for the three-time champions. They could think of replacing him Ben Cutting who can bowl some crucial overs as well. Bumrah, Malinga and McClenaghan will be three specialist fast bowlers, while Markande will handle the spin bowling duties along with Krunal.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Markande.
