In the second game of the first double header Saturday of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, Delhi Capitals (DC) will be hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the evening encounter on March 30 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. The Dinesh Karthik-led KKR team has so far played exceptionally well to register two comprehensive victories and thus, are placed at the top position on the points table. Whereas, hosts Delhi Capitals started their campaign with a clinical victory over Mumbai, but then lost the second game to Chennai by a convincing margin.
After a comprehensive batting performance in the first game, Delhi batters displayed a pretty ordinary effort in the second match. DC opener Shikhar Dhawan scored a fine half-century, but the rest of the batsmen failed to come up with some impressive performances. The batsmen need to up their game against a quality KKR bowling attack.
The hosts' bowling still looks pretty balanced and settled. Both the spinners as well as the pacers have done very well in the tournament so far. They would be eyeing to continue the good work in the upcoming game as well.
On the other hand, the Knight Riders with a pretty well-balanced and perfect combination are being reckoned as one of the strongest oppositions this season. The only slight concern for the KKR team management will be the form of opener Chris Lynn. He has managed to score just 17 runs combined in the two games and the explosive opener would surely keen to be back amongst the runs.
Windies big-hitting all-rounder Andre Russell has been a big plus for the two time champions, contributing with match-winning performances in both the games. KKR’s bowlers have come under the radar in the first two matches, giving away too many runs. The fast bowling promising duo comprising of Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson have so far failed to come to the party. They will now be hoping to come good in the upcoming third game of the season.
Delhi Capitals’ likely Playing XI
The in-form Shikhar Dhawan will be opening the batting along with Prithvi Shaw, who will be desperate to contribute with a significant performance. After a disappointing performance in the first two games, skipper Shreyas Iyer will also be hoping to lead his side from the front by playing a match-winning knock in the upcoming match. Iyer will be heading the middle-order which will include the likes of Colin Ingram and the dangerous Rishabh Pant.
Proteas all-rounder Chris Morris has already joined his IPL franchisee and is likely to be slotted straightaway into the team in place Keemo Paul. Morris and Axar will be the two all-rounders. Even after a decent performance in both the matches, Rahul Tewatia will probably make way for Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. Thus, the hosts are likely to field three spinners in Axar, Sandeep and Mishra. The duo comprising of Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma will handle the fast bowling duties along with Morris.
Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Colin Ingram, Rishabh Pant (wk), Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Sandeep Lamichhane.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ likely Playing XI
The explosive duo comprising of Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn will be the openers for KKR in their third game of the season. Robin Uthappa, who smashed an excellent knock in the previous game, will once again take up the crucial No.3 position. Nitish Rana has been in a sensational touch in the season so far and will once again be aiming to show the same consistency while batting at the No.4 spot. The three finishers in the belligerent Andre Russell, skipper Dinesh Karthik and young Shubman Gill will come in next in the batting order respectively.
Kuldeep Yadav has recorded dismal outings in the two games and he will be eying to leave a significant spark in the coming game. He will partner with Chawla and Narine in the spin bowling department, while Krishna and Ferguson are likely to be one final chance to prove their potential and talent at the grandest stage of all.
Probable XI: Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Prasidh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson.
