IPL 2019, Match 14- RR Vs RCB, Preview: Abashed Teams Chase Their Maiden Win

In the 14th game of the fascinating Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 expedition, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be hosting Royal challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 2 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Both the teams are yet to open their account in the season and thus, the teams are placed very low on the points table. They would now desperately be hoping to start a refreshed journey in the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals have had a dramatic start to their IPL 2019 campaign as they have been involved in three neck-to-neck encounters and each time have ended up being on the losing side. Their top-order batting which has a lot of firepower with the inclusion of Jos Buttler seems to have struggling with the issue of consistency. While none of the middle-order batters have taken the responsibility to lead the team home in the season so far.

Except for Jofra Archer who has been sensational so far, the rest of the bowlers have struggled to execute their plans to perfection and thus, have conceded too many runs especially in the death overs stage in the last two matches. The RR team management needs to figure out the solutions for these issues pretty quickly, in order to improve their fortunes in IPL 2019.

On the other hand, the Virat Kohli-led team find themselves in a much more terrible situation in comparison to the opposition. Barring that close loss to Mumbai, the Royal Challengers have been absolutely decimated by Hyderabad and Chennai. It was the poor batting performance which was the highlight against CSK, while in the other game, both the batters as well as the bowlers came under the scanner. They have almost tried everything in the last three games, but still have not figured out the best combination.

If you exclude skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers from that batting line-up, RCB's batting will surely get crippled and that was the case in the previous two seasons as well. The RCB team management also needs to find a solution to end their death bowling woes. The Indian fast bowling trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini has so far failed to deliver and this has piled on the misery.

Rajasthan Royals’ likely Playing XI

The duo comprising of skipper Ajinkya Rahane and the dangerous  Jos Buttler will be opening the batting for the Royals. Sanju Samson will once again take up the crucial No.3 spot and will head the middle-order which will include the likes of Steve Smith and Rahul Tripathi. Both Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer batted amazingly well in the previous game and will once again guard the finishers’ role.

Jaydev Unadkat ended with pretty expensive figures in the last game, conceding 28 runs off the final over and thus, he is likely to make way for Varun Aaron. Dhawal Kulkarni and Jofra Archer will be the fast bowlers along with Archer, while Gowtham and Gopal will handle the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: Jos Buttler (wk), Ajinkya Rahane (c), Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi, Krishnappa Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, Varun Aaron, Jofra Archer, Dhawal Kulkarni.

Royal Challengers’ Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

RCB has made a lot of changes to their opening combination in the first three matches and all those options have not done the job so far. Thus, they are likely to go in with the pair of Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel as the two openers for this game. AB de Villiers will bat at three with the last match’s opener, Shimron Hetmyer coming this time at four. It will be interesting to see where Moeen Ali would be slotted in the team as he has played at numerous positions in the previous three games.

The Australian cricketers, Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile are yet to join and thus Colin de Grandhomme will retain his place. Prayas Barman had a horrible debut against Hyderabad, conceding 56 runs in his quota of four overs; hence he will be back on the bench with Navdeep Saini coming in place of him. Chahal, Umesh and Siraj will be the other bowlers.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Shimron Hetmyer, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Colin de Grandhomme, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
