IPL 2019, Match 27- MI Vs RR, Preview: High-Flying Mumbai Seek To Extend Winning Run Against Shattered Royals

In the afternoon game of the blockbuster IPL Saturday (April 13), Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hosting the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The host Mumbai team has been on a rampant run since that clinical loss against Kings XI Punjab in the first meeting, registering three brilliant victories on the trot. While on the other hand, the Ajinkya Rahane-led team has had a forgettable IPL 2019 campaign thus far, losing five out of the six games played this season.

MI’s backstory

The Kieron Pollard-led Mumbai Indians will be entering this game after recording a brilliant comeback victory over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the previous outing in the tournament. However, in spite of that win, the MI batting line-up has some definite chinks which need to be settled out pretty quickly in order to extend the dominance further. The likes of Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan desperately need to regroup and find their mojo back.

The MI bowlers had an off-day on the field in previous match against KXIP, leaking too many both at the start as well as during the death overs stage. They would now be itching to put forward an improved effort in the upcoming games.

RR’s backstory

Rajasthan Royals are coming into this match after conceding a heartening 4-wicket loss at the hands of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the previous match. The same old batting woes continue to haunt the RR team management and in turn deplete the Royals further in the tournament. The likes of Jos Buttler, Steven Smith, Ajinkya Rahane and the centurion Sanju Samson have played one or two superb knocks, but other than that, their horrendous consistency deserves the due credit for the Royals’ downfall.

However, the RR bowlers had definitely punched above their weights to come agonizingly close to defend a sub-par total in the last match against CSK. The RR thinktank would now be expecting both the spinners as well as the fast bowlers will keep up their good work in the rest of the matches as well.

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

MI regular skipper Rohit Sharma missed the last match due to a precautionary measure being taken for his hamstring injury. He is currently an unlikely starter for this game as well and thus, it means that the debutant Siddhesh Lad will get another chance to prove his credentials at the top of the order along with Quinton de Kock. Suryakumar Yadav will come in at three, while the stand-in skipper Kieron Pollard will once again take up the fourth spot. Ishan Kishan will be playing role of a floater.

The all-rounder Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal will be guarding the finishers’ role in this game as well. Krunal Pandya will also partner with Rahul Chahar in the spin bowling department. Lasith Malinga is likely to make his comeback in the match and he will be coming in for Jason Behrendorff, who hasn’t done so well in the season. Malinga, Bumrah, Joseph and Hardik will be the four fast bowling options.

Probable XI: Siddhesh Lad, Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard (c), Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Alzarri Joseph, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.

Rajasthan Royals’ likely Playing XI

Even after a dramatic loss in the previous game, the visitors are likely to field an unchanged team for the upcoming match. The duo comprising of Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler will be opening the batting for RR. Sanju Samson will be heading the struggling middle-order which also includes the likes of Steven Smith and Rahul Tripathi.  The pair of Ben Stokes and Riyan Parag will be the two all-rounders, while the likes of Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal add on to the batting depth.

In the pace bowling contingent, Dhawal Kulkarni will be accompanied by the trio of Jaydev Unadkat, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes. Parag and Gopal will be expected to take care of the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Smith, Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jaydev Unadkat.
