IPL 2019, Match 28- KXIP Vs RCB, Preview: Royal Challengers Ready To Reprieve Its Lost Mojo Against Bruised Punjab

In the second game of the Super Saturday (April 13) blockbuster, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Both the teams are coming into this encounter after conceding disappointing losses in their respective previous outings. The hosts led by Ravichandran Ashwin have witnessed a pretty topsy-curvy run thus far in the season, registering four victories and three defeats. On the other hand, the Virat Kohli-led team are still searching for their lost mojo as they haven’t even registered a single win in six games played so far in the tournament.

KXIP’s backstory

The Ravichandran Ashwin-led team will be entering into this game since conceding a heartening three-wicket loss at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the previous match. The biggest positive from that game would be the belligerent form arrivals of the two KXIP openers, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. However, the KXIP team management will still have a big task on their shoulders of settling out the middle-order woes. The likes of Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan and David Miller have played one or two significant innings, but they are yet to achieve some sort of consistency which in turn has hurt the team’s chances.

Barring Mohammed Shami, the rest of the KXIP bowlers ended with pretty expensive figures in the previous match. The strange call of going in with a lone spinner in skipper Ravichandran Ashwin did hurt their chances. The bowlers will now be hoping to put forward an improved performance in the upcoming game.

RCB’s backstory

The Virat Kohli-led team’s dismal story in this IPL 2019 season seems to be haunting them every next game. The biggest shock of the tournament for the RCB team management has been the dismal form of the batters. The experienced likes of skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have so far failed to strike some sort of consistency, while the middle-order surrenders has piled on to the miseries. The batters need to quickly find back their mojo in order to revive RCB’s dismal fortunes in IPL 2019.

The RCB bowlers have also not helped the team’s chances with their disappointing numbers recorded thus far in the season. Both the spinners and fast bowlers have struggled to pick up wickets at regular intervals. They have also failed to keep the scoring rate under the barrel of pressure. The RCB bowlers also need to come up with their best of performances to provide the team with some sort of respectability this season.

Kings XI Punjab’s likely Playing XI

The in-form explosive duo comprising of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul will be opening the innings. There are some concerns with regards to Gayle's fitness, but he is likely to recover in time. Mayank Agarwal missed the last game due to injury and he will probable once again miss out this match as well. His replacement, Karun Nair will bat at the No.3 spot with the likes of David Miller, Sarfaraz Khan and Mandeep Singh coming next in accordance with the situation of the game.

In the pace bowling department, Mohammed Shami will partner with Sam Curran and Hardus Viljoen. Ankit Rajpoot will make way for the leggie, Murugan Ashwin. KXIP skipper Ravi Ashwin will take care of the spin bowling duties along with the other Ashwin.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (wk), Chris Gayle, Karun Nair, David Miller, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Hardus Viljoen, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

After six consistent losses, it seems as if the RCB management have tried out all possible combinations but none of them have worked to the team’s benefit. Thus, they are expected to take up the consistency approach by fielding an unchanged eleven. This means that RCB skipper Virat Kohli will open the batting along with Parthiv Patel. AB de Villiers will head the middle-order which will include the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali and Akshdeep Nath.

In the spin bowling department, Pawan Negi will partner with Yuzvendra Chahal. There are some concerns on Mohammed Siraj’s availability and in case he fails to recover in time, Umesh Yadav will most likely replace him. Umesh will accompany the pair of Tim Southee and Navdeep Saini in the pace bowling attack.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Pawan Negi, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal.
