After so many losses, Royal Challengers Bangalore went forth to taste their first maiden victory in this IPL season 2019 against the Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets. The visiting team of RCB won the toss and elected to field first. The first innings played by the KXIP witnessed Chris Gayle fighting an impressive knock of 99 runs and other economic spells by Moeen Ali and Navdeep Saini and some handy contributions from Yuzvendra Chahal who helped his team by restricting the hosts to a score of 174 runs.
Great feeling to get across the line says Kohli
For a team like RCB, chasing a score of 174 was not easy on the visitors ground. The team started with the dismissal of in-from Parthiv Patel. But then came forth AB de Villiers who built a magnificent partnership with the skipper of the team, Virat Kohli. The duo stitched a partnership of 85 runs. Kohli completed his half century but then was dismissed by Mohammed Shami. Then came a blistering knock by AB de Villiers and the useful contribution of Marcus Stoinis. The team went forth to eventually register their first win in the tournament. AB de Villiers was then awarded with the Man of the Match award for his impressive knock of 59 runs.
Talking about the same, Virat Kohli went froth with all praises for his South African counterpart saying that he is pleased to come for an interview at this time. He further said that they haven’t been unlucky for few games but after so many setbacks, they have won their first match in the IPL season 2019. “Most pleasing thing is coming for an interview at this time, and immediately out of the field. Great feeling to get across the line. Have been unlucky in a couple of games. Won’t say we’ve been unlucky in every game, but a couple of games we should’ve closed out before this. After so many setbacks, the guys had desired. That’s one word we spoke about,” said Kohli.
We knew Chris was going to bat deep said Kohli
He further talked about yesterday’s match and then admired his teammates performances saying that he calculated the run chase and opened about his plans. “We thought 190 will be par and to restrict them to 170 was a great effort. To pick up 4 wickets in eight overs in the middle for 60 runs was an outstanding effort. We knew Chris was going to bat deep,” said Kohli.
He furthered by saying, “So many opportunities to get dot balls, we knew if we bowled decently to him we might restrict them.”
