Shubham Gill was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. He got into the playing eleven after a few matches and mostly batted lower down the order and hasn’t been given better opportunities to promote his game in the IPL season. He was promoted to bat at number four position against the Chennai Super Kings and he didn’t disappoint the KKR fans at all. He scored his maiden IPL half-century to help his team win the match against the Delhi Capitals. In the match against the Delhi Capitals he was entrusted with the task of opening the match with Joe Denly as Chris Lynn and Sunil Naraine didn’t play. He took advantage of that and so scored 65 runs from 39 deliveries.
Gill can’t go back to the depths of No. 6 or 7 again said Bhogle
Gill’s managed 65 runs with was decorated with seven boundaries and two sixes. In the next game against Chennai Super Kings, he was again pushed down the ladder and so scored only 15 runs off 20 balls before getting perished to Shardul Thakur. Talking about the same situation, the famous cricket journalist, Harsha Bhogle said that Gill should be promoted to the top.
He said that injuries are a part of the game and the silver lining is if Gill is shot to the top position he can display a good game of cricket. “Injuries aren’t helping them but the silver lining was that it forced KKR to move Shubman Gill up the order and his class was there to see. He can’t go back to the depths of No. 6 or 7 again and maybe the finisher role there might be assigned to Nitish Rana,” said Bhogle.
The captain is looking for a bowler he can close the game with said Bhogle
He also expressed his concerns about KKR’s bowling attack and with Sunil Narine not in his best form and Kuldeep Yadav not picking up wickets, the KKR captain Dinesh Karthik is lacking bowlers who can support the batting lineup for the team. “In KKR’s best years, Sunil Narine was a four-over bank at the old Eden Gardens. He isn’t the same threat now and with Kuldeep Yadav having a rare spell without wickets, the captain is looking for a bowler he can close the game with,” said Bhogle.
