IPL 2019, Match 36- RR Vs MI, Preview: High-Flying Mumbai Aim To Script An Act Of Perfect Revenge

In the first game of the blockbuster Saturday (April 20), Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be hosting the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. It was just last week when these two teams had their first meeting of the season where the Ajinkya Rahane-led team recorded a brilliant 4-wicket victory over the host Mumbai team at the Wankhede Stadium. However, amidst this short period, the Rohit Sharma-led team has recorded two convincing victories are currently placed at the second position on the points table, while the Royals have struggled to continue the winning momentum and thus, are languishing at the seventh spot.

RR’s backstory

The Royals will be coming into this game after conceding a heartening 12-run loss at the hands of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the last game. The biggest worry for the RR team management in this season has been the inconsistent performance of the batters. The likes of Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith have all played one or two great knocks, but have also failed to build on that performances and that has certainly taken a toll on the team’s fortunes this year.

Once again in the last game, it was Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal who did the job with the ball and the rest of the bowlers continued to disappoint. However, along with these issues, the Royals have now left themselves with an uphill task of winning atleast five of the remaining six games and then wait for the mathematical calculations in order to find a place in the playoffs.

MI’s backstory

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians have definitely unlocked the secret of consistency, winning six of the nine games played in this tournament. However, the team management is still to find out definite solution for the middle-order woes especially Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s struggles. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock and Hardik Pandya have compensated the matters amazingly well till now.

The MI bowlers have also performed amazing well thus far in the season. Both the fast bowlers as well as spinners have been successful at picking wickets on consistent basis to hurt the opposite teams. With a fabulous tally of 12 points in their baggage, the three-time champions have almost sealed the playoffs spot.

Head to Head Battle

Rajasthan Royals’ likely Playing XI

The Royals made some wholesale changes in their playing eleven in the last outing and they are likely to retain those changes in spite of the result not going in their favour. This means that the in-form Rahul Tripathi will once again get to bat at his preferred opening position along with Jos Buttler. After failing to score quickly in the previous game at his new position, RR skipper Ajinkya Rahane will take up the number three slot in this game and Sanju Samson will come in at four. Despite getting dismissed on a golden duck in his debut IPL game, Ashton Turner will get another opportunity to unleash his exploits in the finisher’s role.

Jofra Archer will lead the fast bowling attack along with the likes of Dhawal Kulkarni and Jaydev Unadkat. All-rounder Stuart Binny will also be playing an important role both with the bat and ball. The leg-spin duo of Shreyas Gopal and Ish Sodhi will handle the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: Rahul Tripathi, Jos Buttler, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Sanju Samson (wk), Ashton Turner, Stuart Binny, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ish Sodhi.

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

Just like the opposition, the visitors are also likely to field an unchanged team in this game. The in-form duo comprising of skipper Rohit Sharma and keeper batsman Quinton de Kock will once again take the guard as the openers. The most interesting aspect to look into will be whether the team management persists with the out-of-form Suryakumar Yadav or not. He could be dropped if Ishan Kishan is termed fit to feature in the side. Ben Cutting will also bat up the order to provide some firepower at the top.

The trio of Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard will be playing as the floaters. Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga will be the two frontline fast bowlers with Hardik contributing some useful overs as well, while they will once again field three spinners in Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar and Jayant Yadav.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ben Cutting, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.
