IPL 2019, Match 38- SRH Vs KKR, Preview: Ecstatic Sunrisers Up Against Shattered Knights

In the first game of the Super IPL Sunday (April 21), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be locking horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. While the last time both these teams met earlier in the tournament, KKR emerged victorious with a convincing 6-wicket victory.

SRH’s backstory

The Kane Williamson-led team is coming into this match after completing a clinical 6-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the previous match. After winning four and losing as many as well, SRH are placed at the fifth position on the points table. However, the concerns for the SRH team management seem to similar ones which have been haunting them thus far in the T20 competition. The lackluster form of the middle-order batters has been one of the biggest concerns and they are absolutely showing zero intent to improve their game in order to help the team’s fortunes.

Barring one or two standout performances, SRH’s bowling has not been upto the mark this season. The likes of Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma have failed to pick up wickets at regular intervals and rise on to the occasion. They need to address these issues quickly in order to build on this winning momentum.

KKR’s backstory

On the other hand, the Knight Riders have until now lost five out of the nine games played this season and thus, are languishing behind at the sixth position on the points table. The Dinesh Karthik will be entering this match after conceding a heartening 10-run loss at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the previous game. It has been an Andre Russell dominated season for Knights thus far. Nitish Rana, Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn have played one or two standout innings, but have not been able to strike some sort of consistency.

While in the bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav’s inability to pick up wickets has been the biggest disappointment for the two-time champions. Even the likes of Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla and Prasidh Krishna have not been at their best this season which has in turn piled on to the KKR team management’s miseries. They need to address these issues pretty quickly in order to revive their IPL 2019 fortunes.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s likely Playing XI

After winning the last game by convincing margin, SRH have absolutely no major reason to tinker with the winning combination. This means that the explosive in-form pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow will be opening the batting. SRH skipper Kane Williamson will be desperately hoping lead his side from the front. He will come in at three with the trio of Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan to follow.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will head the bowling attack which will include Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma. The duo of Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem will take care of the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: David Warner, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ likely Playing XI

Even after the loss, the Knight Riders are likely to field the same team as they do not some very great players sitting in the reserves. This means they will once again persist with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine as the opening combination. The middle-order department will be occupied by the likes of Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik. Their batting positions will be decided in accordance with the situation of the game.

The belligerent named Andre Russell will also be hungry as he failed to take the toll in the last game. Russell and Shubman Gill will be the two floaters in the side. In the bowling department, Prasidh Krishna and Harry Gurney will be the two pacers, while Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla will be the spinners.

Probable XI: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Piyush Chawla, Harry Gurney, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
