IPL 2019, Match 39- RCB Vs CSK, Preview: Recovered Bangalore Ready To Welcome Super Kings At The Chinnaswamy

In the second game of the Super IPL Sunday (April 21), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be hosting the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. While in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the tournament, RCB suffered a massive drubbing at the hands of the MS Dhoni-led side.

RCB’s backstory

The Virat Kohli-led team is entering this match after recording a jail-break victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last game. With this win, RCB have also kept their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs somehow alive and kicking. The victory also got many positives for the RCB team management. Kohli's magnificent century and Moeen Ali's successive explosive knocks has settled RCB's batting to an extent.

The bowling department also received a massive boost in the form of Dale Steyn’s inclusion. The pacer delivered a sensational opening spell to take down the KKR top-order. However, the RCB bowling was taken on remand after that start and thus, keeping the last game aside, the bowlers will be eyeing to bring out their best in the upcoming game.

CSK’s backstory

In the absence of MS Dhoni, the Suresh Raina-led Chennai Super Kings conceded a convincing 6-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the previous match. However, in spite of this loss, the Super Kings already have a fabulous tally of 14 points in its baggage and have virtually qualified for the playoffs. But the CSK thinktank still has some issues in their batting which they need to settle out pretty desperately. The pair of Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu have been the major disappointments this season, but still the team management has showed a lot of faith in them and they would be expected to come good in the upcoming game.

Their bowling has been very much upto the mark in this season thus far as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in the upcoming games as well.

Head to Head Battle

Overall (24)

At the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium (8)

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

The in-form RCB skipper, Virat Kohli will open the batting along with Parthiv Patel. The one major change from the previous match’s team will be the inclusion of AB de Villiers. His availability will depend on the condition of his recovery from the concussion which he suffered during game against Mumbai. If de Villiers is able to recover in time, he will walk back straight into the playing XI in place of Heinrich Klaasen. Akshdeep Nath has also not been able to leave a big impact thus far and he is likely to make way for Shivam Dube.

Moeen Ali and Marcus Stoinis will be the two floaters and both of them will also be expected to take up the finishing role as well. Dale Steyn will lead the fast bowling attack which also includes the likes of Mohammad Siraj and Navdeep Saini. RCB will once again field three spinners in Pawan Negi, Yuzvendra Chahal and Moeen Ali.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Marcus Stoinis, Pawan Negi, Dale Steyn, Navdeep Saini, Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chennai Super Kings’ likely Playing XI

Just like RCB, Chennai team management will be stressing a lot over MS Dhoni’s back issue. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming mentioned that the final call on Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo’s availability will depend on whether they practice on the eve of the game. Shane Watson is once again expected to be persisted with and he will take the guard as the opener along with Faf du Plessis. Stand-in skipper Suresh Raina will head the middle-order along with the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav.

If Dhoni is termed fit, he will replace Sam Billings in the line-up. The CSK team management will also be tempted to play Harbhajan Singh who can neutralise in-form Moeen Ali’s explosive blitz. Harbhajan along with Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja will be the three spinners, while Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur will be the two frontline fast bowlers.

Probable XI: Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir.
