IPL 2019, Match 42- RCB Vs KXIP, Preview: Reloaded Bangalore Up Against Battered Kings

After the high voltage encounter in Chennai, it is time to shift focus on the 42nd match of the exciting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, wherein Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be locking horns with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 24. Both the teams will be coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. In the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the tournament, RCB registered a clinical 8-wicket victory against the home team.

RCB’s backstory

The Virat Kohli-led team will be entering this match after recording a 1-run jail-break victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the last match. With this win, the 2016 finalists also kept their playoffs hopes very much alive and kicking as if they are somehow able to win all of their remaining four games, then the tables are certain to shift in their favour. However, for that to happen they need to sort out some of their middle-order batting woes. Either of Virat Kohli or Parthiv Patel has been consistent in providing great starts, but barring the likes of Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers, the rest of the batters have failed to come good thus far in the season.

Except the final over disasters in the last match against CSK, it is clearly evident that Dale Steyn’s addition has certainly bolstered the RCB bowling unit by a great extent. The RCB bowlers will now be hoping to keep up the good efforts in the upcoming games as well.

KXIP’s backstory

The Ravichandran Ashwin-captained team will be coming into this match on the back of a convincing 5-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last outing. With five wins and as many losses, KXIP withhold the fifth position on the points table. Just like the opposition, KXIP team management is also battling out with similar middle-order batting issues. They have tried almost every single combination, done many changes but are yet to figure out a definite solution. However, keeping the past aside, the middle-order batters will be expected to strike some form in this game in order to revive the Punjab-based franchise’s fortunes in IPL 2019.

Due to the batters’ struggles, the KXIP bowlers were also left strangled with the pressure of not enough runs on the scoreboards in the last match. The fast bowlers as well as the spinners have been performing very well this season and they will be eyeing to keep hurting oppositions in the similar manner in the rest of the games as well.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

RCB skipper Virat Kohli will once again take guard at the top of the order along with the in-form Parthiv Patel. AB de Villiers will take up the crucial number three position. The decision to demote Moeen Ali down in the batting order did cost RCB in the previous match and thus, they will reconsider the plans. This will be Moeen Ali’s last game of this season as he will be returning home for England’s World Cup preparations. He will come in at four, while Akshdeep Nath is likely to be dropped due to regular failures and he will make way for Shivam Dube.

Marcus Stoinis will be expected to play the finisher’s role in addition to providing some crucial overs with the ball as well. Umesh Yadav might have to face the axe due to the last over bashing against CSK. Mohammed Siraj will come in his place and partner Dale Steyn and Navdeep Saini in the pace bowling department, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Pawan Negi will be the spinners.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Marcus Stoinis, Pawan Negi, Dale Steyn, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj.

Kings XI Punjab’s likely Playing XI

Even after conceding a loss in the previous match, KXIP will field the same playing eleven that played against Delhi. The duo comprising of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle will open the batting. Mayank Agarwal will be expected to bat with some responsibility at number three and David Miller will come in at four. Mandeep Singh and Sam Curran will be guarding the finishers’ role.

Spin bowling all-rounder Harpreet Brar did a decent job on debut and thus, he will retain his spot. He along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Murugan Ashwin will form part of the spin bowling department, while Mohammed Shami, Hardus Viljoen and Sam Curran handling the pace bowling duties.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle, KL Rahul (wk), Mayank Agarwal, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Hardus Viljoen, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin, Harpreet Brar.
