IPL 2019, Match 46- DC Vs RCB, Preview: High-Flying Delhi Aim To Take Down The Ecstatic Bangalore

In the first game of the blockbuster Sunday (April 28), Delhi Capitals (DC) will be locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi. Both the teams would be very much high on confidence as they are coming into this game after recording comprehensive victories in their respective previous outings. When these two teams met each other earlier in the tournament, Delhi emerged victorious with a convincing four-wicket win.

DD’s backstory

The Shreyas Iyer-led team is arriving into this match on the back of a sensational 6-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the previous outing. With a fabulous tally of 14 points in the baggage, the Delhi-based franchise is very much on the doorsteps of booking a berth in the playoffs. With the victory against RR, many of their major batting concerns also got sorted out to a great extent. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant came back amongst the runs.

Their bowling has been very much up to the mark in this season as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in this game as well.

RCB’s backstory

The Virat Kohli-led team is coming into this encounter after recording an amazing 17-run win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the last match. However, in spite of this win, RCB are still hanging in the middle of a stiff chance of making it to the playoffs as the 2016 finalists not only need to win all of their remaining three games but then also wait for some other results to come in their favour as well. Nonetheless, it will not be wrong to say that the RCB team management’s some problems have surely eased down.

With the boost of Moeen Ali and Marcus Stoinis, the dependency on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers has decreased to some amount for sure. But the problem is that Ali has already gone back home to take part in England’s World Cup preparations.

The bowling department also suffered a body flow with Dale Steyn getting ruled out of the remaining season due to shoulder injury. Now the onus will be on rest of the bowlers to take up the responsibility and deliver with the highest of abilities.

Head to Head Battle

Overall (23)

At the Feroz Shah Kotla (8)

Delhi Capitals’ likely Playing XI

The home team will stick to the same winning combination that featured in the last game against Rajasthan. This means that the in-form duo comprising of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw will once again open the innings. DC skipper Shreyas Iyer will come in at the number three position and the wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant will bat number four. Sherfane Rutherford and Colin Ingram will guard the role of the floaters.

Chris Morris will partner Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma in the pace bowling department, while the duo of Amit Mishra and Axar Patel will handle the spin bowling duties. Considering the nature of the Kotla wicket, Sandeep Lamichhane might make a comeback in place of Rutherford.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

RCB skipper Virat Kohli will open the innings along with wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel. The in-form dangerous AB de Villiers will take up the crucial number three spot and will lead the middle-order which will include the all-rounder duo comprising of Marcus Stoinis and Colin de Grandhomme, who will come in for Moeen Ali. It will be interesting to see if the team management continues to show faith in struggling Akshdeep Nath or not. The likes of Shivam Dube, Himmat Singh or Gurkeerat Singh Mann could come into contention in case Nath gets dropped.

Despite leaking too many runs in the last game, Tim Southee will retain his place. He along with Navdeep Saini and Umesh Yadav will form part of the seam bowling attack, while Chahal and Sundar will be the spinners.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Akshdeep Nath, Colin de Grandhomme, Washington Sundar,  Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal.
