IPL 2019, Match 47- KKR Vs MI, Preview: Big Things At Stake As KKR Gets Ready To Host MI

In the second game of the blockbuster Sunday (April 28), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be playing hosts to the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. It is still an unbelievable fact to digest that with most of the team playing each other twice, however, this will be the first time when these two teams will be up against each other in this tournament.

KKR’s backstory

The Dinesh Karthik-led team will be entering into this match on the back of a heartening 3-wicket loss suffered at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals (RR). With this drubbing, the two-time champions find themselves in a very miserable state wherein they first need to win all of their remaining three games and then wait for the other results to fall in their favour as well. However, in order to win this and the rest of the games, the Knights need to find out the solutions for quite a few problems. The batting department has struggled to strike any sort of consistency thus far in the tournament.

The story of the KKR bowlers has been much more towards the depleting lines as compared to the batsmen so far this season. But in the last match, the likes of Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine did show glimpses of form arrival and they as well as the rest of the bowlers to keep the efforts going on in the upcoming games as well.

MI’s backstory

On the other hand, the Rohit Sharma-led are coming into this match after recording a brilliant 46-run victory over the table-toppers, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the previous outing. With this fabulous win, the three-time champions have also almost booked a spot into the playoffs of IPL 2019. Many of the MI team management’s major concerns also got sorted in that victory. MI skipper Rohit Sharma finally converting his 30s-40s into a sensational half-century was the biggest positive.

Their bowling has been very much up to the mark in this season as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in this game as well.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ likely Playing XI

KKR have tried quite a few opening combinations this year, but they have struggled to seek consistency from any of them. Nonetheless, Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill will open the batting in this game as well. Nitish Rana, who has had a brilliant run thus far, will take up the crucial number three spot, while skipper Dinesh Karthik will once again promote himself and bat at number four position in order to provide some solidity. Andre Russell will come in at five and perform his usual finishing job with perfection with some support from Sunil Narine.

Seam bowling all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite picked up just one wicket in the last match and didn’t contribute much with the bat either, thus there is a possibility that he might be replaced with speedster Matthew Kelly. Kuldeep Yadav will also make a comeback in place of Yarra Prithviraj. Rinku Singh, Piyush Chawla and Prasidh Krishna will retain their spots.

Probable XI: Chris Lynn, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Matthew Kelly, Piyush Chawla, Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

There is absolutely no major reason for the team management to tinker with the winning combination that played against CSK. The in-form duo comprising of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock will be opening the innings. Evin Lewis did a decent job with the bat in his first game this season and he will retain his number three spot, while the time might be running out for Suryakumar Yadav. He could get one final opportunity to prove his worth. The trio of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya will once again guard the role of the floaters.

Anukul Roy has played two games this season and has done an excellent job thus far. He will assist the likes of Krunal and Rahul Chahar in the spin bowling department. Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah are the two frontline fast bowlers.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.
