Windies star all-rounder Andre Russell has taken the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) through a belligerent storm. While playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the big-hitting batsman has been in a staggering form, racking up a sensational tally of 484 runs from 12 games at a phenomenal average of more than 69. Russell has scored these runs with an astounding strike-rate of 207.69. Most importantly, Russell is the major reason for KKR still being very much in contention for the playoffs.
West Indies are the dark horses
Due to the thunderous IPL 2019 numbers thus far, Russell was also recently named in the West Indies team for the upcoming 2019 World Cup. During a recent interview, former legendary Indian skipper and the current Delhi Capitals (DC) advisor, Sourav Ganguly talked about the Windies team's chances at the upcoming 50-overs quadrennial event.
Ganguly reckoned with some excellent performers in Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, Shai Hope, Oshane Thomas and a few more, Windies are portraying as one of the big contenders. He noted that the two-time champions are surely the dark horses for the upcoming World Cup scheduled to start from May 30 in England and Wales.
“Andre Russell, what form he is in! I am telling you, this West Indies are a very serious team in this World Cup with Russell, Shai Hope, Chris Gayle, Oshane Thomas and a few others. I think West Indies are the dark horses and the way Russell is playing, he can make a huge difference,” quoted Sourav Ganguly.
The former Indian cricketer mentioned with this stupendous form, Russell can prove to make a huge difference for the Windies team in the World Cup. Russell last played ODIs for Windies in July 2018 against Bangladesh. He has compiled 998 runs in 52 ODIs with a highest score of 92. Russell has also scalped 65 wickets at an economy of 5.87.
