IPL 2019, Match 51- MI Vs SRH, Preview: Playoffs Spot In Focus As MI Goes Up Against Warner-Less SRH

In the 51st game of the intriguing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 expedition, the Mumbai Indians will be hosting the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 2, Thursday. Both the teams will be coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. While in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the tournament, Mumbai emerged victorious with a smashing 40-run victory in the low-scoring encounter.

MI’s backstory

The Rohit Sharma-led team will be entering this match on the back of conceding a 34-run defeat at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous outing at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With this loss, the matters relating to playoffs qualification also got delayed for the three-time champions. However, with a fabulous tally of 14 points in the baggage, they still are very much comfortably placed in this embracing playoffs race. The concerns for the MI team management are very much the same before every match this year. The openers and then the lower-order batters have been the mainstays as far as Mumbai’s batting is concerned in VIVO IPL 2019.

The middle-order hasn’t fired and that has certainly taken a slight toll on the team’s progress thus far. On the other hand, barring the last game, their bowling has been very much upto the mark in this season thus far as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well.

SRH’s backstory

The Kane Williamson-led team is coming into this game after recording a clinical 45-run win over the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the previous outing. With this victory, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have now climbed to the fourth position on the points table and with 12 points in their baggage, they are very much comfortably placed to book a berth in the playoffs. However, the SRH team have lost out on an integral member of the side, David Warner, who has been the bagpiper thus far in the tournament.

But the team now has to adjust and the rest of the batters need to take some sort of responsibility in order to continue this winning momentum. While the bowlers have also struggled to attain any sort of consistency and thus, they will be desperate to come good in the upcoming games.

Head to Head Battle

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

Even after conceding a defeat in the last match, Mumbai Indians will field the same playing combination in this game as well. This means that the duo comprising of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock will open the innings. Evin Lewis has not looked convincing in the two games played thus far, but he will still retain his place. It is likely that Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled in the last few matches, will have to make way for the comeback of Yuvraj Singh.

The trio of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard will play the role of the floaters. Barider Sran, who had a horrid outing the other night, is likely to get another chance. Malinga, Bumrah and Sran will be the frontline pacers, while Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya will be the two spinners.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Evin Lewis, Yuvraj Singh/Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Barinder Sran, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s likely Playing XI

Due to Warner returning back for Australia’s World Cup preparations, Kiwi batsman Martin Guptill will finally get his opportunity as he will open the innings along with wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha. The in-form Manish Pandey will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders while taking up the number three spot. SRH skipper Kane Williamson would be desperate to end his struggles and lead the side from the front. Vijay Shankar will come in at five, while Mohammad Nabi and Abhishek Sharma will be the two all-rounders.

In the fast bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will partner with the duo comprising of Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma. The Afghan pair of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi will handle the spin bowling duties along with some assistance from Abhishek Sharma.

Probable XI: Martin Guptill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson (c), Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed.
