We Had A Tough Season This Year Says Ajinkya Rahane

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered a disappointing 5-wicket loss at the hands of the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. The DC bowling duo comprising of Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra delivered sensational spells to rattle the opposition within a paltry first innings total of 115 runs. Riyan Parag did play a gutsy knock but he never got any support from the rest of the players.

Despite defending a below-par total, the RR bowlers did very well to somehow apply the brakes on the opposition’s progress early on, but eventually the scarcity of runs derailed the matters for the Royals. For Delhi, Rishabh Pant surprisingly played a sensible innings to take his team over the line. With this drubbing, RR have been knocked out of the competition.

We didn’t capitalise on the tough moments

After the game, the Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane revealed that they failed to capitalise on the tough moments of the match. However, he mentioned that he cannot blame the team much in this case as most of the players are featuring in their third or fourth game of this season. Rahane noted that they surely need to take the learnings from this season and come back stronger next year.

“We had a tough season this year. We didn’t capitalise on the tough moments, we can’t place the blame on the boys for today, many of them are playing their 3rd or 4th game. We need to learn from this and come back well next season,” quoted Ajinkya Rahane.

Rahane also heaped praises on young Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal for their exceptional efforts. Gopal has been very much sensational for the Royals this season, picking a fabulous tally of 20 wickets at an average of 17.35, while Parag has also been impressive in this match as well as in the tournament.

“Riyan Parag has been exceptional, so has Shreyas Gopal — he always thinks about taking wickets. We play the game with love and passion, it’s all about attitude. We didn’t bat well, 140-150 would have been challenging,” Rahane added.

The bowlers showed a lot of character

The RR skipper noted that his bowlers showed a lot of character despite defending a small total. He further mentioned that he has always focussed on giving his best for the team both as a batsman and captain. “The bowlers gave it all, showed a lot of character. Personally, my season was good, I was confident about batting. Captaincy and batting is different, I always want to give the best to my franchise, it’s all about staying positive and giving your best,” he concluded.
