KL Rahul Orchestrates Consolation Win For KXIP

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 campaign with a sensational 6-wicket consolation victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. CSK experienced batsmen duo comprising of Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina compiled fabulous innings in the century partnership, but then the KXIP bowler pair of Sam Curran and Mohammed Shami pulled things amazingly well to limit the opposition within a par first innings total. While in the second innings, KXIP opener KL Rahul entertained the home crowd with some remarkable shots in almost all parts of the ground and his phenomenal innings also brought the result factor to mere formalities. With this victory, KXIP have also ended their home run on a winning note.

Shami and Curran pull things back after Raina and du Plessis' fabulous partnership

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the CSK team got off to a poor start as out-of-form opener Shane Watson continued with his horrible struggles, getting dismissed early with just 30 runs on the scoreboard. The pair of Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina then joined hands to resurrect the CSK innings out of the troublesome situation. Both du Plessis and Raina batted amazingly well to stitch a fantastic partnership of 120 runs. Raina was the first one to get dismissed in the 17th over after playing a fine knock of 53 runs off 38 balls which included five fours and two sixes. 

His partner at the other end, du Plessis who was looking in a great touch, fell just four runs shorts of bringing up his maiden IPL hundred. He compiled a remarkable innings of 96 runs that consisted of 10 fours and 4 sixes. However, after his wicket, the visitors suffered a vital batting collapse and could only manage to score a total of 170 runs in their quota of 20 overs. For KXIP, Sam Curran picked up three wickets, while Mohammed Shami claimed two crucial wickets. 

Rahul’s phenomenal knock leads KXIP in the chase

Chasing a stiff target of 171 runs, KXIP opener KL Rahul got his team off to a brilliant start, blistering a terrific half-century off just 19 balls that too within the first four overs of the innings. The other opener, Chris Gayle surprisingly played the role of a second fiddle initially but then picked up pace in the seventh over, smashing Imran Tahir for a couple of lusty blows. However, it was Rahul who stole the show with a sensational knock of 71 runs off just 36 balls which included seven fours and five sixes. He got dismissed by the 11th over, but until then he had already reduced the run-chase matters to mere formalities.

Harbhajan Singh picked up three wickets including that of Rahul, to cause some sort of jitters in the KXIP dressing room. But then Nicholas Pooran played a vital cameo knock of 36 runs which brought KXIP towards the doorsteps of a victory. After doing well with the ball early on in the game, it was Sam Curran who fittingly ended the proceedings by scoring the winnings runs in the 18th over.
