Before the start of the World Cup 2019, a lot was expected from the Afghanistan squad and especially from Rashid Khan. However, the 20-year old leggie, Rashid Khan wasn’t able to deliver his maximum potential in the right manner and has picked only four wickets in the mega tournament being played in the England and Wales. With the poor performance of Rashid Khan, Gulabdin Naib is left frustrated. The young spinner, Khan suffered through a nightmare against England in the World Cup after he conceded 110 runs in just the nine overs he bowled and that instead worsened the record of the 36-year old, Kiwi Martin Snedden.
He’s giving his 100 percent, but if you look for the fielding side, I’m a little disappointed
Khan was bestowed with 11 sixes in the match in which seven came off the bat of the Kiwi captain Eoin Morgan. Khan however made a good comeback in the game against India however, his loss to pick up any wicket against Bangladesh in Southampton has again raised questions to his ability to be a part of the World Cup campaign. He was bowled with 62 runs in the match and this resulted in the team losing their seventh match in the Cricket World Cup 2019.
The skipper of the Afghanistan squad, Gulabdin Naib was left upset with Rashid Khan’s fielding efforts in the tournament. “He’s giving his 100 percent, but if you look for the fielding side, I’m a little disappointed. He’s also disappointed about the fielding. One time he’s very angry in the field. I asked him just keep relaxed and just focus on your bowling. So I think he missed his momentum there because of fielding,” says Naib.
We missed a couple of catches and gave some extra runs
Afghanistan played a good game against India however losing in the end however but their match against Bangladesh in Southampton brought them to the same level again. “I’m happy with the toss, but if you look at the match, we missed a couple of catches and gave some extra runs. We gave away 30, 35 runs. Because of mis-fielding we missed the opportunity again,” said Naib.
