In the third match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019, defending champions Madurai Panthers have registered a clinical 9-wicket victory over the TUTI Patriots at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. It was a pretty comprehensive win for the Panthers as they played remarkably well both with the bat and ball. In the end, it was a pretty one sided contest in which the Patriots failed to show much of fight.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, TUTI Patriots got off to a poor start as their opening batsman Wilkins Victor got dismissed quite early in just the third over of the innings. The pair of Akshay Srinivasan and skipper Subramania Siva then joined hands and batting really well to bail their team out of the troublesome situation. They stitched a fine stand of 74 runs before Subramania got out in the 10th over.
However, after Subramania’s dismissal, the Patriots suffered a crushing batting collapse as they lost six wickets for just 31 runs. From a strong position at 87 for 2, they suddenly crumbled to 119 for 8. This batting collapse faltered their whole run flowing and eventually the Patriots managed to post just 124 runs in their quota of 20 overs.
Srinivasan played an excellent innings of 55 runs off 41 balls, while for the Panthers, Kiran Akash and R Mithun ended with three wickets each.
Karthik and Sarath lead a strong opening foundation
Chasing a modest target of 125 runs, the Madurai Panther got off to a remarkable start at the top as their two openers, Arun Karthik and A Sarath Raj provided a solid foundation at the top. The duo showed some great amount of composure and temperament to stitch a significant opening partnership of 95 runs and this stand already reduced the run-chase to mere formalities. Sarath Raj failed to convert his start of 33 runs, getting out in the ninth over.
However, Karthik played a captain’s knock of 65 runs off 42 balls that included of seven fours and three sixes and remained unbeaten till the end as the Panther chased the target with 7.4 overs to spare.

Madurai Panthers: 128/1 in 12.2 overs (Arun Karthik-65*, A Sarath Raj-33)
