The visiting Bangladesh team stunned India in the first T20I match in Delhi as they took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Team India failed to put up a strong total on the scoreboard which was a major reason for the loss. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored in the first T20I match with a 42-ball 41 for India and he too struggled to time the ball nicely. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has revealed his personal opinion on the Indian opener and feels that he needs to perform in the rest of the matches.
Dhawan has been under the pump since a long time now as he is not a part of the Test team. The opener features only in the limited-overs format and hardly plays domestic cricket as well. During a recent interview, Gavaskar stated that questions will surely be raised in case Dhawan fails to perform in the next two T20Is against Bangladesh.
Gavaskar noted that the team will not be benefitted with Shikhar scoring runs after facing the same number of balls. The former Indian opener feels it is normal that players do take time to get their rhythm back especially when they are returning to the field after a specific interval.
“Questions will be raised on Shikhar Dhawan if he doesn’t bat well in the next 2 matches. The team is not going to benefit if you’re scoring 40-45 runs from the same number of balls. He will have to think about this. When players come back after the gap, it does take a lot of time to get back the rhythm,” quoted Sunil Gavaskar.
