Luke Wright’s Blazing Knock Guides Abu Dhabi To Easy Win

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Northern Warriors’ captain Darren Sammy got his team off to an explosive start. The captain played a cameo of 17 runs off 13 balls before getting bowled out by Ben Laughlin. The duo comprising of Sam Billings and Andre Russell then combined together to steady the Warriors’ innings.

Billings and Russell started to take the attack to the opposition bowlers from the very first ball. The duo stitched an excellent unbeaten partnership of 63 runs for the second wicket. However, Laughlin bowled very well to pull things back as Northern Warriors eventually managed to get 92 for 1 in 10 overs.

Russell remained unbeaten at 37 runs off 27 balls that included of three fours and one six while Billings was 35 not out. For Team Abu Dhabi, Laughlin picked up the only wicket to fall and gave away 19 runs in his two overs quota.

While chasing a tricky target of 93 runs, Team Abu Dhabi lost the wicket of their opening batsman Niroshan Dickwella in just the second over with 13 runs on the board. At the other end, Luke Wright started smashing the opposition bowlers out of the park. Abu Dhabi captain Moeen Ali joined hands with Wright to resurrect the innings.

The pair of Moeen and Wright added a match-winning tally of 77 runs to propel Team Abu Dhabi near the victory line. Wright fell just two runs short of a fine half-century as he made 48 runs off just 23 balls that included of 4 fours and 2 sixes. Team Abu Dhabi chased the target with 9 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand.
