As it is often said that someone’s loss is an opportunity for another to prove its worth and thus, Shikhar Dhawan’s shoulder injury presents a great opportunity for both Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw who have been announced as his replacements in T20Is and ODIs respectively. India have named a 16-man squad for the New Zealand ODIs with both Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar missing out due to their respective fitness issues. After serving his doping ban and proving his form with stunning performance in the ongoing India A tour to New Zealand, Shaw will be in line to make his ODI debut in the three-match series.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson is very much likely to get an opportunity in the long five-match T20I series. Barring the inclusion of Shaw, India have announced a similar squad that defeated Australia recently at home in a closely fought ODI series. It remains to be seen who will be taking the role of the wicket-keeper in the T20Is and ODIs in New Zealand with both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant part of the squads. The first T20I between New Zealand and India is scheduled to be played on January 24 in Auckland while the first ODI will be commencing on February 5.
