After the rain gods finally took a break, South Africa Women won the toss and opted to bowl first. Australia Women posted 134 for 5 in 20 overs with Meg Lanning playing a crucial unbeaten innings of 49 runs that included 4 fours and 1 six. Beth Mooney scored 28 runs off 24 balls and Rachel Haynes contributed 17 runs off 18 balls. For South Africa Women, Nadine de Klerk took three vital wickets.
In the second innings, rain once again made an appearance after which the game was shortened as South Africa Women were required 98 runs in 13 overs. South Africa lost key wickets at the top which was a huge setback for them. In the end, Laura Wolvaardt remained unbeaten at 41 off 27 balls but failed to take her team over the line. For Australia, Megan Schutt picked two wickets and the rest of the bowlers also contributed nicely.
Meg Lanning was named the Man of the Match. Australia Women will now defend their title against India in the finals of Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 on Sunday.
