There have been a lot of speculations regarding the Indian squad touring to the England and Wales for the mega event. The final hurdle of the last remaining spot in the extravaganza of the World Cup has been stuck between the two major candidates who will be filling the final vacant spot in the Men in Blue team. These are the 28-year old batsman Vijay Shankar who is placed in the team as a bowling option and the veteran player Ravindra Jadeja.
India is currently contesting against Australia in their home ground which consists of the five-match ODI series. This will be the last international assignment before the squad gets ready to fight each other in the IPL and the upcoming World Cup 2019. The Indian squad touring to the England and Wales is one that can win the ICC World Cup after 2011. India has won the prestigious cup two times, one in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev and the other in 2011 under the patronage of MS Dhoni. India will try to redirect the same wins and so the squad is being prepared accordingly. In case of the contention between Vijay Shankar and Ravindra Jadeja, the current tour against Australia will be the major deciding factor as to who gets a seat in the final spot for the World Cup 2019.
Pandya’s injury has proved to be fruitful for Shankar
The all-rounder, Hardik Pandya was actually named in the Indian squad to fight against Australia however; he had to drop out due to a lower back injury. This proved to be beneficial for Vijay Shankar who has been featured for only five ODI matches for India. The selectors are still in the questioned spirit in order to decide over Pandya’s contention for the World Cup.
The chief selector has already decided for 14 players in the team
It has been informed that the chief selector of the BCCI, MSK Prasad has already decided over for the 14 seats in the squad, however, they are barring only one spot. They have two cricketers in question, namely, Ravindra Jadeja and Vijay Shankar who have to prove their worth in the ongoing series against Australia.
