In the 16th game of the exciting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a clinical 5-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. The SRH bowlers displayed a sensational combined effort to rattle the opposition batsmen under a pretty thin first innings total. While in the second innings, Jonny Bairstow set the tone with an excellent cameo innings to help his team take an early advantage in the run-chase, after which the rest of the batters finished off the formalities with pretty much ease to bring up a great win.
SRH bowlers’ smashing performance leaves opposition in complete tatters
After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, hosts Delhi Capitals got off to a pretty poor start, losing both the openers, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan within the first six overs of the powerplay with just 36 runs on the board. The dangerous power-hitting batsman, Rishabh Pant also failed to bail to his team out of trouble, getting dismissed cheaply. After picking up three early wickets, the SRH bowlers never really boiled down and kept picking wickets at crucial intervals to leave the hosts in a miserable state at 75 for 5. SRH off-spinner Mohammad Nabi, who returned with brilliant figures in the previous match, bowled exceptional in this game as well, scalping two crucial top-order wickets.
However, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer held one end pretty firmly, scoring a valuable knock of 43 runs. Right-arm leg-spinner Rashid Khan the bowled a fantastic delivery to send back the DC skipper back into the pavilion. The SRH bowlers delivered an excellent combined performance to restrict the opposition under a paltry total of 129 runs. For SRH, the trio of Bhuvneshwar, Nabi and Kaul bowled really well to claim two wickets each.
Bairstow’s explosive start advances SRH in the run-chase
In the second innings, SRH opener Jonny Bairstow once again started off the proceedings on a blazing note. The English batsman started smashing the DC bowlers from the ball one, blasting a quick-fire cameo of 48 runs off just 28 balls which included 9 fours and 1 six. With Bairstow’s opening wicket in the seventh over, SRH suffered a slight batting collapse as they lost their next three wickets in a matter of just four overs. However, before getting dismissed, Bairstow had already led his team towards a strong opening platform which would make it easier for the rest of the batters to follow.
Towards the end, Nabi contributed with a brief sensible knock to steer his team home towards a comfortable win with nine balls to spare in the match.
