Mumbai Indians Storm Into Finals Of VIVO IPL 2019 With A Staggering 6-Wicket Victory

Mumbai Indians (MI) registered an astounding 6-wicket victory in the first Qualifier over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The MI spin bowling trio of Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya got their team off to a sensational start by picking up some crucial wickets early on in the first innings. The duo of MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu did get in a vital partnership, but in the end, CSK eventually managed to reach just a par first innings total. While in the second innings, Suryakumar Yadav played a phenomenal inning under pressure to steer Mumbai towards an emphatic victory. With this win, Mumbai Indians are through to the finals of VIVO IPL 2019.

MI spinners sensational efforts limits CSK

After winning the toss and opting to bat first on a massive turning Chepauk track, the home team got off to a horrendous start as they lost three key wickets in the form of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Shane Watson within the first six overs of the powerplay that too with just 33 runs on the board. The Mumbai spin trio of Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya bowled amazingly well to rattle the CSK top-order. The CSK experienced batsmen duo of Murali Vijay and Ambati Rayudu then led their team to some respite before the former got trapped by Chahar in the 13th over.

After Vijay’s wicket, CSK skipper MS Dhoni and Rayudu steadied the innings with a few sensational shots. Dhoni clobbered the experienced Lasith Malinga for a couple of brilliant sixes over the long-on region. But then Jasprit Bumrah applied the brakes on CSK’s explosive progress by bowling an excellent final over giving away just nine runs which restricted the opposition to a modest total of 131 runs. For MI, Chahar was the pick of the bowlers, picking two crucial wickets with an impressive economy rate, while Jayant and Krunal also bowled really well to limit the opposition.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan rise up on the massive occasion

Chasing a target of 132 runs, MI also didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing both the in-form openers, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock quite early with only 21 runs on the scoreboard. CSK new ball bowling pair of Deepak Chahar and Harbhajan Singh delivered effective spells to remove the MI openers. However, the MI batting duo comprising of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan then joined hands to bail their team out of the troublesome situation.

The pair of Suryakumar and Ishan batted really well to compile a remarkable partnership of 80 runs and in turn also kept the CSK spinners at bay during the middle-overs stage. The experienced Suryakumar Yadav showed off his potential at the grandest stage of all, racking up just his second half-century of the season, but the most crucial one. CSK leg-spinner Imran Tahir the brought his team back in the game by claiming the wickets of Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya off successive deliveries.

But then the pair of Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya batted very sensibly to help Mumbai pick up a comfortable win with nine balls to spare in the game. Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant unbeaten knock of 71 runs that came off 54 balls and also included 10 boundaries.
