After the 10 players pulled out due to security concerns, Pakistan will finally be delighted that Sri Lanka have announced the teams that would be travelling to the controversial country to play both ODIs and T20Is. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) have ignored the likes of Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Dimuth Karunaratne, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal, Thisara Perera, Akila Dhananjaya, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera and Niroshan Dickwella from the squads.
Lahiru Thirimanne, who will be leading the Lankan team in the ODIs, has not been included in the T20I squad. Debutant Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been named as the replacement in the shorter format. The duo comprising of Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama are the two experienced names in the batting department.
In the absence of the senior players, it is an opportunity for the young blood to show their talent at the international level. In the bowling department, the likes of Oshada Fernando, Nuwan Pradeep, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara and Isuru Udana have been included in the teams. While Shehan Jayasuriya and Shanaka are the all-rounders. Both these all-rounders were also part of the Lankan side in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against New Zealand.
The tour is planned to happen somewhere around September 27, 29 and October 2, the dates for the three ODIs, while the T20Is are scheduled on October 5, 7 and 9.
